WHO IS MSS?

Respect for aging is central to the Bible’s teaching. Concern for elders is found in the stories of both the Old and New Testaments, and we recognize the contribution elders have made to family and community throughout the ages. This is the theological base upon which Methodist Senior Services has built our ministry. We share this rich heritage with the Mississippi Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, whose dreams led to our birth more than forty years ago. Decades later, we still share this commitment to hold the wisdom and experience of God’s older children in high esteem.

Our logo appears at the upper left of each page of our website. It is our testimony of the values we hold and our motivation for ministry. The "flower" image represents the blossom of the dogwood tree. Growing wild in our state, the forests are filled with their beauty each spring as Easter approaches. These blooms have long been recognized as nature's reminder of the Crucifixion and Resurrection. The petals of our dogwood form hearts, symbolizing God's love for us and the command to love God and one another. We believe this love for God should also manifest itself in service to humanity. At the center of our logo is both a star and a cross. The star reminds us of the Star of Bethlehem that announced our Savior's birth. It served as a guide for the wise men in their quest, and we believe that looking to Christ will guide our service to elders. The star is also a stylized cross that reminds us of the reason we exist. Jesus gave himself in service to others, and we strive to do the same.

We are still limited by our individual and collective human frailties, but our desire is to follow the Wesleyan principle of "going on to perfection" as we strive to fulfill our mission of serving older adults in the spirit of Christian love. This mission statement does not mean that any of our services are limited to persons of the Christian faith. Rather, it describes our motivation for engaging in this ministry. We do not discriminate in the provision of services, as described in our Discrimination Policy found here and at the bottom of every page on our website.
