Local Information
Gulfport is a picturesque beachfront community on the Gulf of Mexico with a diverse culture supported by a progressive economy. This friendly city tries to make everyone feel welcome and at home.
Gulfport is the second largest city in Mississippi with more than 71,000 residents. It was recently ranked by Forbes as one of the Top 10 Fastest Growing Small Metro Areas in America. In addition, Moodys.com listed the city Number 1 in the nation for employment growth. The Port of Gulfport is the third-largest container port on the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is growing rapidly with direct flights to numerous destinations.
Gulfport is home to two state of the art medical facilities, The Garden Park Medical Center and the Gulfport Memorial Hospital. Both strive to meet the needs of their patients with a variety of inpatient, outpatient, surgery and emergency services.
Gulfport was part of the Mississippi Gulf Coast community greatly affected by Hurricane Katrina. While the magnitude of damage and destruction left by Katrina was unparallel to anything this Country had ever seen, the spirit and the resolve of Gulfport was left unscathed, and the community is well on its way to a full recovery.
But Gulfport is not just recovering; they are rebuilding—bigger and better than ever! Businesses are reopening every day and residents are returning to rebuild the city they love. In addition to the numerous attractions that are already open, plans are underway to further revitalize the economy by redeveloping and restoring the downtown business district, improving and enhancing the magnificent Harbor, and attracting additional top quality gaming venues.
Gulfport is working its way back, and while the landscape may have changed, its unique character and warm, inviting Southern charm is still the same. For more information about Gulfport, visit www.gulfportms.com.
