Local Information

With a population of approximately 13,500, West Point is the county seat of Clay County, Mississippi. It resides on the fertile northeast "black prairie" region of the state and had its early beginnings as an agricultural and railroad town. West Point is also located at the apex of the "Golden Triangle" which is comprised of the cities of West Point, Columbus, and Starkville. Two major universities, a community college, an extensive industrial base, an excellent regional airport, international port access via the Tenn-Tom waterway, and the rich farm land, have made the Golden Triangle one of the state's fastest growing areas.

The charm of West Point will hold you spellbound, as you stroll along her quaint downtown sidewalks and through her picturesque park. The greetings you receive from passerby confirm the town's reputation for being open and friendly. West Point captures a simplicity of life rarely found in today's fast-paced society.

West Point embodies what was best about America a generation ago. Neighbors are friendly, family values are held close, and the cost of living is affordable. Although enjoying four distinct seasons, our community is blessed with a moderate winter which does not hamper an active lifestyle.

Whether it's tennis, golf, fishing, or just taking a leisurely stroll, West Point offers a variety of recreation pursuits. West Point is home to the renowned Old Waverly Golf Course.  This course captures the essence of the Scottish Highlands within the graceful setting of the Old South.

Since 1978, West Point has hosted the Prairie Arts Festival.  Held on the Saturday before Labor Day, the festival has been recognized as one of the top ten events in the South. Come visit and find out for yourself why West Point was named one of the "Top 100 Small Towns in America". For more information about West Point, visit www.wpnet.org
