Meet the Dining Director- Karen Belding
I was raised in Hobart, Oklahoma where my mother and sister still reside. I have been married to John Belding for 39 years, and we have two children: Jeff, 38, is married to Lana and has our two granddaughters, Caitlin who is 12, and Mackenzie who is 6. They live in Mont Belvieu, Texas. Our daughter, Tami, is 29, single and lives in Starkville, where she works for CB&S Bank and is completing her Masters in accounting.
My roots are in farming communities. While in high school I drove a tractor during summer break. After graduation I went to Oklahoma State University for two years. When my son was two years old I started working at the college in the wheat breeding department. Six years later, my husband got a job in Lindsay, OK at a private seed production plant. I did all their bookkeeping.
After six or seven years we moved to Hobart, OK and worked with my parents in an appliance, furniture, and gifts store. They retired in 1989, and we went into business for ourselves, but I also started working at the hospital as morning cook in the dietary department. We were there for thirteen years, then moved to Kansas. I started working at the school kitchen and was promoted to head baker.
In 2000, we moved to Mississippi and I began working in the Dietary Dept at our hospital here in Clarksdale. After six months, I accepted the position of Assistant Food Service Director. Five years later I accepted my current position at Flowers Manor Retirement Community.
John and I are Baptists. We have one dog and enjoy camping, but the joy of our lives is to visit the kids and grandchildren.
